We have just completed another fine part-cantilevered stone staircase (near Richmond, London) for a Developer. It is a replica of a 17th Century Stair, made of Portland Base-bed Stone.
We had to overcome some challenging existing wall conditions to form the cantilever, including a blocked-in / hidden window. The flush soffit finish and jointing is a modified traditional design. The bottom step features double scroll ends. We also undertook the forming of holes for the fine balustrade.
Here we are during early parts of the construction phase. We designed ‘heels’ on the backs of every other tread to assist with stability and robustness.
