Fintan Morrison joins us for a 5-week placement as part of his Level 3 NVQ in Heritage Stonemasonry Skills. He is gaining experience on a number of different sites whilst with us.
The Prince of Wales’ Building Craft Programme was established by the Prince’s Foundation in 2006 in order to preserve the skills and knowledge essential to maintaining our built heritage and to building the sustainable communities of the future. The course offers an eight-month programme of applied study, providing building craftspeople at the beginning of their careers an opportunity to enhance their design knowledge and experience in traditional and sustainable building crafts.
A fundamental aspect of the programme is the on-the-job training that students gain through work placements with traditional building companies and master craftspeople working on traditional new building schemes and restoration projects across the UK. These placements are carefully chosen to ensure the appropriate experience and supervision is provided and that the work will lead towards the successful completion of a Level 3 NVQ in Heritage Skills.
The valuable industry partnerships that are established in this process are key to supporting the next generation entering the heritage construction sector.
