New Fernery, Private Residence, Surrey
Client: Private Client
Main Contractor: A F Jones Stonemasons
Architect: Ian Adam-Smith
Location: Surrey
Summary: An orangerie for a private dwelling, with elegant and handsome combination of brick and Bath Stone carved features. A F Jones delivered the full package including both stone as well as brick with integrated detailing. The project features Bath stone from Hartham Park, we worked closely with the client and architect to design this classically elegant brick and stone fernery. A particular achievment on this project was the layered and overhanging cantilevering reveals, along with the sensitive integration of new with existing elements - whilst achieving a seamless difference between the two. We constructed the whole Orangery from the foundations upwards, including the manufacturing of all stone components such as the feature arch and rose window. Internally, we designed, carved and installed a feature fireplace. In addition, we addressed and rectified some damaged stone windows & other elements of the main elevations caused by subsidence of the original house.
Stone: Bath Stone – Hartham Park.
Particular Achievements:
- Combined brick & stone materials & detailing
- Layered & ‘overhanging’ / cantilevering reveals
- Sensitive integration of new with existing elements
