Project Type

New Build Private Residence

The Castle is a new-build home in Oakwood, Buckinghamshire, where stone is central to both the architecture and the interior.

Working closely with CSK Architects and RJ Clyde, AFJONES helped realise an eclectic concept that blends medieval references, classical motifs and the rustic strength of Cotswold walling.

Architecture and Interiors  ·  Stone

Cantilevered Staircases
as Centrepieces

AFJONES were involved across the full interior, coordinating stonework through the basement, pool and mezzanine levels. Jerusalem Gold limestone, Bath stone ashlar, Cotswold stone walling and Clipsham elements are combined to create a scheme that feels both robust and refined.

Two cantilevered stone staircases sit at the heart of the interior, carefully engineered and proportioned, turning circulation routes into key architectural moments.

Carved Detail

Columns, Balconies
and Carving

Carved elements play an important role in the project's character. Fluted stone columns line the pool, a carved Juliet balcony overlooks the interior, and selected details are picked out with carving that rewards close inspection.

Each piece was fabricated in AFJONES Ipsden workshops and hand-finished before installation, ensuring every carved detail met the exacting standard required by the design.

The scope of work included stone flooring, walling, fluted columns and cantilevered stairs sourced from multiple quarries and countries. The coordination of international stone supply with precision on-site installation required careful planning and an experienced team.

Logistics and Delivery

Floors, Walling
and Interior Stone

Stone from Jerusalem, Bath and the Cotswolds was brought together within a single coherent interior, unified by AFJONES disciplined approach to specification and installation.

Material Continuity

Stone from Entrance
to Pool

Stone provides continuity as you move through the building, from the entrance hall with its cantilevered staircase down through the basement pool level, where fluted columns and carved balcony details frame the space.

The integration of stonework across multiple levels and styles demonstrates AFJONES capability to handle complex multi-room projects with a consistent level of quality and craft.

Stone provides continuity as you move through the building — from entrance hall to pool, every surface shaped with care.

The Castle shows how stone can carry a design concept from its foundations to its finest detail, unifying diverse references into a single, confident interior.
