Design & Consultancy

We collaborated early to refine the hearth’s design and to ensure the stone choice complemented the wider vision.

Workshop Manufacture

We utilised our extensive CNC machinery in our Oxfordshire workshops, as well as water jet technology, to craft the intricate detail, ready for install.

Installation

As well as acting as Main Contractor in collaboration with Salvesen Graham, our site teams managed and co-ordinated the final installation, ensuring a seamless integration with the wider interior finishes of the room.

In Detail

Design Collaboration

Working closely with Salvesen Graham, we conceptualised and delivered a completely bespoke marble hearth blending traditional craftsmanship with playful contemporary detailing.

Inspired by the inlaid antique Georgian marble fireplace and Renaissance church floors, the design combines timeless materials with modern elements drawn from the wider room scheme. Floral motifs reference the surrounding wallpaper, while etched dog prints inspired by Nicole and Mary’s pets, Gussie and Constance, bring a personal narrative to the piece.

Main Contractor

Acting as Main Contractor, this project reflects far more than our expertise as specialist stone contractors. We coordinated every aspect of the build, bringing together suppliers, trades and specialist skills to realise the Salvesen Graham vision while ensuring the space is practical, buildable and flawlessly executed.

Backed by 185 years of experience, AFJONES continues to combine craftsmanship with exceptional project delivery expertise.

Crafted In-House

We manage all of our projects entirely in-house, from stone procurement through to final installation, ensuring every stage meets the quality and craftsmanship standards we are known for.

Marbles were sourced from Portugal, Italy and Spain before being waterjet cut, dry laid and pinned ahead of resin bonding and CNC milling across our 5 & 6-axis machinery in our South Oxfordshire workshops. The hearth was then hand-finished with carved paw prints and bespoke brand detailing before being polished and sealed. Every step illustrates the importance of bringing together advanced production techniques alongside traditional craftsmanship.

Family Timeline

Six generations of expertise have taken us from our original Reading workshop in 1866 to our current state-of-the-art facilities in Ipsden. Today, our specialist team of masons continue that legacy, delivering on some of the most prestigious projects across the UK.
