Bringing Stone to Life since 1858
Stags End
Stags End, Contemporary Private Residence, Hertfordshire
Client: Private Client
Main Contractor:Vinci
Architect:Tempieto
Location:Hertfordshire
Summary: Contemporary style new build residence.
Stone: Anstrude Jean-Claire + Portland weathering elements.
AFJ Scope: Design, manufacture & build of all stone elements.
Particular features / achievements:
– A house designed to blend with the landscaping, curvaceous & contemporary.
– Internal swimming pool (with curved perimeter).
– Challenging complex geometry, fixed onto a concrete sub-structure built out of standard tolerances (including compound curvature to the cantilevered cornice).
One of the benefits of CNC machine-cut natural stone is in achieving complex geometry as seen in this contemporary residence with sweeping cornice. The cornice is a substantial cantilever to provide shelter, a feature and also weathering cover to the Anstrude stone elevations. The geometry of this component needed significant stainless steel bracketry for its support & restraint. The walls are relatively standard 100mm skin to a cavity wall construction. Together with the internal pool and other landscaping features in stone, this was a substantial project and a major achievement for A F Jones Stonemasonry.
